When tragedy strikes, the most important thing for us to do as news consumers is to allow the facts to come out before rushing to judgement. While watching the body counts rise throughout the day is certainly stressful (especially for those of us who cover the news), it doesn’t change the calculus of what happened and why.
Of course, what we just described is so last year according to the mainstream media. Ethics in journalism went out of fashion a long time ago. You no longer need facts or evidence to attribute a motive (or conceal one). All you need are subjective feelings, and some moral axe to grind against people who politically disagree with you.
Take this image for example, which accidentally contradicts itself. At the top of the story, the motive is a mystery. Towards the bottom…not so much. And what could have possibly motivated that gunman in France to commit such a heinous crime? Could it be the fact that the country, like the rest of the continent, is importing people with an outdated and twisted ideology that commands followers to murder people who think differently than they do?
No way. That ever happens…
