What it’s Like to Talk to a Leftist About Guns

For a group that seems so bent on regulating firearms, you would at least expect the political left to know a little bit about them.

Take the media’s widespread use of the word “assault weapon” for example — a label that has no legal definition to speak of. Instead of referring to a particular class of weapons, such as semi-automatic rifles, the label seems to refer simply to guns that are scary looking — namely the AR-15.

Now, even the difference between semi-automatic and fully-automatic seems to confuse the typical leftist, as revealed in Steven Crowder’s man-on-the-street style interviews with college students. Fully automatic weapons have been banned in the United States for decades, and semi-automatic describes just about every gun available to civilians in the country.

What does the AR-15 and Glock-17 have in common? They’re both semi-automatic.

Of course, explaining these easy-to-digest nuances to a gun-grabbing fanatic often feels like going to war.
