Okay, so “cheeseburger” in Spanish is actually hamburguesa con queso, but that’s not the point here…
Venezuela is a country where the general population has collectively lost weight since its socialist government took power. The poor have resorted to eating stray cats and dogs. And sure, we know we’ve mentioned that plenty of times, but we’ll continue doing so the longer it remains true. At this point, there’s no reason to believe that we’ll have to change course.
The worst part about all of this is that the Venezuelan government has done nothing but doubled down on its socialism since the effects became apparent. People aren’t allowed to shower for as long as they want to. Rolling blackouts are common as the central government struggles to save on electricity costs.
The bottom line is that top-down, centralized economic planning has never worked for a single country that has tried it. Sadly, we’ve been reduced to morbid jokes like this explain this to people…
