This is What One U.S. Dollar Looks Like in Venezuela

Ah…the beauty of socialism — a system wherein even the poorest people in a society are able to know what it feels like to bathe in their own cash. The only drawback is that the cash is largely worthless.

Venezuela is currently experiencing something every head of state should have learned not to do almost 100 years ago. With the cost of the country’s socialist programs soaring, Venezuela’s government has been forced to manipulate its currency to pay its debts. And what does a socialist government do when it can no longer live off of other people’s money? Why, print more money of course!

If this had taken place before the Weimar Republic in Germany crumbled, this would almost be a forgivable mistake. But, seeing as that happened in the late 1920s, and hyperinflation continued to prove to be a horrible mistake throughout the rest of the century (see Zimbabwe), it’s not.

Venezuela should be a warning sign to the rest of the world. Whatever policy its government implements, it’s probably best to do the opposite.
