The American university system was once seen as the envy of the academic world. Even to this day, students from countries everywhere spend a lot of money to attend college in America — so much for the so-called “free” university degrees in Europe.
But, as we’ve been learning in recent years, students are putting in a lot more than they’re taking away. Really, all that seems to happen is that a young individual goes in normal, and emerges as a left-wing activist. On top of all this, academics have sold many the idea that absolutely everyone has to attend college to amount to everything — ignoring the idea that most job training can easily be accomplished through much less expensive trade schools.
So, here we have social theorist and economist Thomas Sowell explaining exactly how useless most college is — and this comes from a man who spent a very long time in the academic world. Sowell, a well-known conservative thinker, earned his bachelor’s degree at Harvard, his masters at Columbia University, and his doctorate at Chicago University. The man is clearly speaking from experience.
If you’re thinking about sending your child to a university, the best thing you can do is ensure that it’s for a good reason. Evaluate your son or daughter’s career goals first. There is a good chance that all you’re paying for is an indoctrination camp.
