Britain’s National Health Service is still facing a PR disaster over its decision to disallow terminally ill child Alfie Evans from receiving experimental treatment outside of the United Kingdom.
The Alfie Evans case became a worldwide phenomenon when Evans, a two-year-old clinging to life with a brain-related disorder, was essentially sentenced to die by the British government. When the child’s parents began looking at other options such as said experimental treatment in Italy, the situation quickly turned political.
Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro has been all over the case, rightfully condemning this harsh de facto death sentence as a byproduct of government-run healthcare. As Shapiro points out, if a couple decided to starve their child because they weren’t sure how to feed it, they would be arrested. However, if a hospital decided to simply let a child die because they don’t know how to treat it, it’s somehow justified.
Americans should be keeping a watchful eye on the situation. After all, this is one of the countries the Democrats are looking too as a shining example of a “successful” healthcare system. Clearly, that success isn’t felt by everyone…
